Rafael Nadal Will Catch Roger Federer’s Grand Slam Record

Toni Nadal feels that his nephew Rafael Nadal will be able to overcome the Grand Slam record of Roger Federer before he announces his retirement. Nadal and Federer have been the two best tennis stars over the last couple of decades. Federer has edged this race with an alarming consistency over the last 15 years. This has enabled him to win a whopping 19 Grand Slam titles. In the process, the Swiss master was able to overcome the tally of Pete Sampras – one of the greatest tennis stars of the current generation. Now, it seems that Federer’s tally may not stand for long, as Nadal is waiting within touching distance of the same.

Due to his overwhelming dominance at the French Open, Nadal is now up to 16 Grand Slam titles. The Spaniard is also only 31 years of age, while Federer is widely expected to announce his retirement in the next couple of seasons. At 36 years of age, Federer may not have been expected to make an impact in the Grand Slam titles, but this has not been the case with the veteran finally ending his drought by winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year.

However, Rafael Nadal clearly has time on his side in order to close the three-title advantage held by Federer. Toni Nadal believes that this will happen sooner rather than later and that the retirement of the Swiss master will act as a first step towards the same. Yet, Nadal has been beset by injury problems over the last couple of years.
